Admissions Testing
Clear, Empowering Assessments to Help Your Child Shine
Applying to private or independent schools can feel stressful, but admissions testing doesn’t have to be.
What is
Admissions Testing?
Private and independent schools often require cognitive testing as part of their admissions criteria. These evaluations are used to assess a child’s verbal and nonverbal reasoning skills, working memory, processing speed, and other cognitive abilities.
While these scores are only one piece of the puzzle in a child’s application, they can help schools get a clearer picture of your child’s developmental profile.
At Capital Psychology, we provide:
- WPPSI-IV (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – 4th Edition)
- WISC-V(Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – 5th Edition)
We provide accurate, child-centered assessments in a calm, supportive environment, giving children the best chance to succeed and parents clear, professional results they can trust.
Fees & Timing
We understand that your time is valuable and that this process can feel time-sensitive. Here’s what to expect:
WPPSI-IV
Fee: $450
Testing Time: Approximately 60 minutes
WISC-V
Fee: $495
Testing Time: Approximately 60–90 minutes
It’s best to schedule your child’s testing in the morning, when they are most alert and focused, even if that means arriving late or missing a day of school. A rested, well-fed child performs their best, and we want to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
Please be sure to download and complete the Admissions Testing Form prior to your child’s appointment.
What Happens During the Assessment?
During the session, your child will participate in a variety of engaging and age-appropriate activities designed to assess:
- Verbal comprehension and reasoning
- Visual spatial skills
- Working memory
- Fluid reasoning
- Processing speed
We use language like “activities” or “games” when talking with your child, and encourage you to do the same.
Let them know they’ll be doing things like putting blocks together, looking at pictures, and answering questions. They’ll have the opportunity to take breaks and, for younger children, pick out a small prize afterward.
No preparation or studying is required. Just ensure your child:
- Gets a good night’s sleep
- Eats a healthy breakfast
- Brings a snack if desired
- Wears their glasses or takes any regular medications as usual
The Report
Following the testing session, we will:
- Score the assessment
- Analyze the results
- Write a detailed report that highlights your child’s strengths and areas of growth
The standard turnaround time is two weeks. If you need the report sooner, rush scoring is generally available for an additional fee of $75.
Reports are sent directly to both you and the schools you specify. While the written report often answers most questions, we are always happy to schedule a consultation if you’d like to review the results in more depth.
Cancellation Policy
We reserve dedicated time for your child’s assessment, so we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.
- Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance: $50 cancellation fee
- If your child is ill, please notify us as soon as possible so we can find a new date that works for you
